It’s a fact: The insurance industry is facing a looming worker shortage. Many agencies today are staffed by 40, 50 and 60-year-old insurance agents who will retire in the coming decades. Yet many agencies are reluctant to hire Millennials. Studies show that much of that is due to persistent stereotypes of young adults when in reality Millennials are well-suited to the insurance industry.
Millennials are regularly labeled “entitled,” “narcissistic,” and “lazy,” but research proves that most of these negative stereotypes simply are not true. Not only that, but their technological skills could be incredibly useful in insurance agencies. Research also shows that Millennials are highly adaptable and aren’t bothered by change — an incredibly useful trait in an industry that’s changing fast. Millennial employees can provide agencies with important input to help them market to young adults.
